What is an orthodontic emergency?
An orthodontic emergency is anything related to your teeth, jaw, and orthodontic equipment that is causing you severe pain, bleeding, or damage. If you have trauma to the mouth or jaw that is life-threatening, you should go to the emergency room or call 911.
Orthodontic emergencies may include:
- Broken or loose brackets
- An archwire that has fallen off or come detached
- Severe mouth pain
- Unrelieved soreness
- Bleeding from a wire or bracket
- Trauma to the mouth or jaw from impact
